Who We Support

The De LaSalle School

The Andy Foundation is currently refurbishing an unused school room at the De LaSalle School into a library for the students. The De LaSalle School is a charter school for young men in grades 5-8 located in Freeport NY. (www.DeLaSalleSchool.org) We are also running a book drive to stock the library. This past fall a fundraiser was held and the proceds were donated to the school for them to purchase Smartboards for the classrooms.

If you would like to contribute to the book drive please refer to the book wish list. Feel free to email us at jps115@aol.com or info@theandyfund.com for more information. Thank You!

KaBoom!

This summer, the Andy Foundation teamed up with KaBoom! and the Nassau-Suffolk Service for Autism (NSSA) to build a playground for the Martin Burell School for Children with Autism.  To read an article about the event in Newsday, click here.  To view the newly posted pictures from the event, click here.

Andy Foundation teams up with Safe Horizons

Over the past few months, the Andy Foundation has been working with Safe Horizons, a provider of safe havens for battered women and children.  The kids at the Andy Foundation through various fund raising efforts purchased furniture and equipment for Safe Horizon's Lilly House Childcare Room and After-School Room.  We also conducted a toy drive collecting more than 100 toys which will be delivered to the house.

Update from Pal-O-Mine

Our adopted horse Diva is training for the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing.   Caitlyn Byrnes, a 14 year old born with spina bifida, began riding as a form of physical therapy.  Caitlyn is now focused on the goal of securing a spot on the United States Paralympics Equestrian Team that will compete at the Paralympic Games in Beijing, 2008.  She and her equine teacher, "Diva", have participated in clinics, horse shows, and training sessions in addition to her weekly riding lessons at Pal-O-Mine Equestrian.   The Andy Foundation will continue to support Diva and Caitlyn in their quest for a Paralympics spot.

Cancer Center for Kids

The Andy Fund has replaced all of the electronics and video games that were stolen at the Cancer Center for Kids in Mineola, NY.  We also donated a check to purchase a new CBC Machine.  This allows the patients' blood tests to be returned faster and more efficiently.

A Mother's Kiss

The Andy Fund donated money to the foundation, A Mother's Kiss.  The money provides emergency relief for families with children with cancer.

Pal-O-Mine Equestrian

An enthusiastic group of children watched recently as Jill Palmeri, on behalf of the Andy Foundation, issued a check to Pal-O-Mine Equestrian Executive Director Lisa Gatti.

The Andy Foundation executive and junior committee selected the Pal-O-Mine equestrian facility to be the recipient of its first donation because it is dedicated to teaching horseback riding to disabled individuals, many of whom are children.

The Foundation's donation enabled Pal-O-Mine, a non-profit organization that relies largely on volunteers, to purchase two horses, Sonny and Diva, as well as help feed and board them.  The addition of the two new horses will also allow the program to accommodate 30 additional children with disabilities.  The Andy Foundation is dedicated to achieving lasting improvement in the lives of children less fortunate than others.

If you would like to meet Sonny or Diva or learn more about the remarkable therapeutic horseback riding program Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, log onto www.pal-o-mine.org or call 631-348-1289.
